Umberto Veronesi and Mario Pappagallo indicate vegetarianism as an option for everyone: a change that can improve the quality of our lives, but also protect the planet and avoid suffering to animals.
Starting from his personal experience and oncology reasearch, Professor Umberto Veronesi explains the reasons behind an ethical, sustainable and healthy choice: vegetarianism, which he recommends to everyone from an early age. Mario Pappagallo illustrates how nutrition is the first health friend and how it plays a key role in preventing a number of illnesses as well as many forms of cancer. Their theories and recommendations are summarized in the volume’s final chapters, where they include two hundred recipes by chef Carla Marchetti, a vegetarian for many years, that can help everyone to gradually approach this life choice. Veronesi’s proceeds will go to the projects by the young researchers at Fondazione Umberto Veronesi per il Progresso delle Scienze [Umberto Veronesi Foundation for the Progress of Science].

Umberto Veronesi is internationally renowned for his research on cancer treatment. He published almost eight hundred research papers and obtained thirteen honorary degrees as well as many international awards. He is the scientific director of the European Institute of Oncology of Milan. In 2003 he founded the Fondazione Umberto Veronesi per il Progresso delle Scienze [Umberto Veronesi Foundation for the Progress of Science], a foundation that promotes scientific culture and research.

Mario Pappagallo is a scientific journalist for the daily "Il Corriere della Sera", he started working in the field of medical and scientific information in 1980, after studying Medicine and Biology at the University and obtaining a Master in Scientific Journalism at the Tor Vergata University in Rome.
